I read today that 1.9 million American boys turn 18 each year
The current size of the active duty military is about 1.2 million. What would the military do with all those extra bodies? Would they draft young women, too? If so, then that would raise the total to about 3.8 million a year. Who would support the huge increase in military spending to induct, train, equip, feed, and pay all of those people?
There simply is no reason for a draft. It's simply a stupid idea whose primary purpose is to really weaken the military by turning public opinion against it. It's hardly surprising that it was proposed by a Democrat.
