I had a similar fate. I wanted to join the Navy like my dad, the stories were a lure. I couldn't pass the physical too and it had to do with my eyes. Colorblind, couldn't read what it said on the little chart full of different colored dots. I found out later that some enlists never even took the test. I was so distraught not able to join the Navy I ran away to S. Calif. and wandered before going back to school in N. Calif. I figured I would be drafted but I was never called up. It's the one and only true regret in my life, not serving in the military.
