Yes! There are serious faults
with capital punishment practiced
in the United States.
One, is the preponderance of
blacks and hispanics executed to whites [3:5-to-one ratio in many states].
The argument extreme right-wingers give
to that reality is that black murderers outnumber the white murderers in the United States. Smacks of racism.
Two, is the verifiable abuse of
'interogation techniques' practiced
by a few "bad apples" in police forces.
But, I find Europe's arrogant smugness on the issues of crime & punishment appalling, even reprehensible: Europe's 'liberal' political philosophy to offer hard-core
criminals privileges they don't deserve, offering them short prison
sentences to the peril and endangerment of future victims, is sickening...
[No humanistic society can guarantee
that a prisoner is 'reformed' upon release]
But, equally, I find the metaphoric assembly-line 'slaughterhouse' approach to capital punishment [practised in Texas, Florida] equally reprehensible.
I'm in neither political camp.
I consider myself a moderate.
