First, if executing a perp would bring back a victim, I'd be all for it and more. Absolutely a slam dunk.
And it won't. And it doesn't even relieve the pain of the friends and relatives. They just get to gloat for a while, hope he/she suffers, etc.
Many times the family doesn't care what happens, or is against the death penalty. Those can get well faster.
I'm sure the percentages of innocent people found to be on death row convicted before DNA evidence was available but was available after conviction would be the same as the previous 50 years when DNA evidence wasn't saved.
Has to be. It just wouldn't make sense that as DNA evidence became testable the only innocent folks were found.
I'm mixed about the death penalty. For some people it's a "fer sure", as there would be a chance they would do it again, and there needs to be NO more victims.
Others, though, would never do that crime again.
And, frankly, life in the slam is a fate worse than death in many ways. As the religious broadcaster I heard once said, "Jail is no picnic. That's why they call one "jail" and the other "picnic".

"Closure" is a myth.
