Exactly. Most DSL providers use dynamic IP's- In otherwords, they persist fewer IPs than users (obviously not all users are on-line at once), so they 'assign' IPs to users as they log on. So IP's vary.

The binding between IP and geographic location IS spoofable (though I must admit, I have never done it).

Tracert and search engines, though, will get to the bottom of the identity of most internet users pretty quickly. For example, I can get the home address of most internet users given a first or last name and an IP address.... and in some cases just an IP address. I have a fair Idea Tech1 knows whats up here.

In fact, I found out Grondine (just between you and me...haha) posts a lot on some yahoo boards and on some really nut-zoid sites (like ones linking bible prophecy to asteroid impacts/ 'planet x' flybys) by tracing out his IP and having some knowledge of his typical signiatures and/or turns of phrase<sorry grondine, but freedom of speech is a 2 way street>. Nothing illegal, noting 'black hat' and nothing that 'leet' (hacker-eze for can screw you into the stoneage, so don't mess with), just solid, basic and very dumb internet tracing.... For fun I told R.L. everything about his computer and current internet status from his IP address and name, even down to the gear he had plugged into the wall and his Windows OS version.

Now, before anyone gets any notions- I am NOT hax4r ninja and I am certainly not eliete. Just a fairly literate fellow with a basic idiot-level knowledge of the internet and doesnt break any laws.
