When this photo was found in WWII...

(a href=http://www.gbkgraphics.com/digger/hall4a.htm>it was widely circulated. The effect on soldiers in the field was to harden their hearts even more. Payback was a bitch.

If it turns out those American soldiers were executed, payback will be a bitch once again.
