With the increase in accuracy, even "strategic sized nukes" takes on a new meaning.
The Titan II ICBM carried a 9 megaton (MT) warhead. That should tell you something about its accuracy (or lack of it).
The Minuteman I and II missiles carried a 1 MT warhead.
MIRV technology allowed the Minuteman III to carry 3 warhead, each somewhere around 250-350 kilotons (KT). A treaty signed in the 1990s is eliminating MIRVs (at least on ICBMs), so each Minuteman III has only 1 warhead, probably in the 250-350 KT range. In fact, the warhead may be a lot smaller. FAS says it carries a Mk 12 warhead and lists that as 170 KT yield.
I've read that the Trident SLBMs carry multiple warheads, each of which may be around 100 KT, perhaps even less.
Yes, smaller is better.
