Iran infiltrates death-commandos and suicide bombers into the shi'a south to pull daily or weekly bombings of american troops on street patrol. Angry Sunnis who hate us for removing them from power and wealth snipe at american sodiers strolling down the block.
The only legitimate government we can manage to form leans on kurds and their relative secular sanity, which Syria, Iran and others immediately move to undermine as, well, they religiously hate the kurds. Turkey will undermine the new government in terms of them not wanting thier entire southern region to defect into the new kurdistan.
Some Kurds will want that to take place, even to the point of employing terrorism against Turkey (which they do now to some extent, or at least turkey claims), thus further weakening the legitimacy of the new Iraqi gov't.
Syria won't be silent. They will strike deals with the Sunnis to ressurrect theor former glory. Iran and Syria will be scared of the thought of being "next" in line, and will desperately want to tie up US forces in sequestering and pacifying Iraq by infiltrating weapons, money and terrorists at every turn.
Each one of these Muslim extreemist states who glorify the struggle of the palistinians will see Iraq as their very own version of the west bank. We will know no end to this.
This war STARTS, really, when the last Iraqi tank is destroyed and the last republican guard is shot. This is just the 'good ol days'
This is my ULTIMATE nightmare. I view it as more likely than not.
