Especially without it being telegraphed.
I'm sure our spy sats are already carefully watching the border areas to scan for would-be resistance fighters trying to go to or from Iran, Syria, etc...
I may be wrong, but I don't believe that Iran has an airborn division, and certainly they don't have many forces mobile enough to make such a manuver on a grand scale.
Plus the US could easily out flank them from Turkey, Afganistan, Diego Garcia, the Persian Gulf, and the Indian Ocean.
I'm not saying we could simply brush off such a threat; however, I think it would be suicidal for the Iranian government to attempt such an action.
Sadam needs a lot more than a sneak attack from Iran to save his regime.
How Iran (and Syria) view the new Iraqi government will be very important to the future of the Middle East. Will they seek to undermine it by sponsering terrorism against it? Or will they welcome the new peaceful neighbor to the block party and make peaceful gestures of their own...
If they are smart, they will recognize the fall of Hussain as a gift: Iran really won't have any enemies in the region now...Of course maybe having enemies is seen by the Iranian government as the only means to keeping power...who knows.
Only time will tell.
