Lotta "whys"!

For those of you who tried to deflect the issue to "why should you be surprised that he is Christian?": nice try, but that's not what we are talking about. Start another thread to discuss it if you think you can find someone to argue with who is worried about Bush being a Christian (or just straw-man it, like usual).

For those of you who knew what we were talking about... let's let ebnelson stand in for the crew:

Perfectly competent people say that all the time.

"I was chosen by God to write this post."
"I was chosen by God to raise this child."
"I was chosen by God to run this company."

Doesn't sound right to me. Do you really know people who say stuff like this? What were you chosen by God to do? I thought the Christian God was all about free will, not pre-determination.

What I find troubling about a statement like this is it ***may*** imply that the person saying it feels that he has special Permissions that God sometimes gives to folks in the old testament ("sacrifice your son to me", for example). Or that his plans are specially blessed, so that whatever plans he comes up with are what God intended. In that case, you gotta hope that his plans are rational ones.

Mary Anne is right on target concerning Bush's lack of humility. Add that to the divine right of kings mantle that he ***may*** choose to wear, and you ***may*** end up with a dangerous fanatic.

I'm not asserting anything based on that scanty quote, for gosh sake! But it is an interesting quote, and my radar is now officially on.
