It shouldn't be news to anyone who has kept up with Bush's transformation since 911. It's my guess its part of what has changed him into someone who seems more in command and sure of himself. I think its probably a common occurence in religious people finding themselves at a critical juncture in history. It can be a force for good by helping someone blow off silly and inane criticism like the media's repitition of its Afghan follies. It can most certainly be an evil force if taken to extremes like in Taliban Afghanistan or Iran. I've seen nothing so far to indicate Bush has taken it beyond the comfort in crisis phase.
