It strikes me as strange that so many intelligent people have the attitude that if they take no action they have no responsibility for the outcome when it comes to war. They seem to think that not going to war is always the right choice.
Bystanders who fail to help people in distress are usually depicted as morally weak.
Failure to warn friends and relatives of negative consequences of their actions to avoid conflict is considered cowardly.
Looking the other way when company business practices are illegal or immoral is considered being an accessory.
Buying drugs and using them in the privacy of your own home is considered by many to support the killing that is a side effect of the drug trade.
All of these have in common the basic moral premise that if you can prevent a wrong you should and that you should not enable any immoral activity.
I’ve seen the same trait in many more tasks. People seem to have a fondness for ignoring problems hoping they will go away on their own rather than tackling the problem and risking failure.
I believe strongly in the phrase if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. If you choose to do nothing you are choosing to let the problem continue.
