What pisses off the U.N. and some of the nations in the rest of the world is not that we have stopped being a benevolent superpower. It is that we have stopped being a doormat.
A good percentage of the political process of the United Nations is currently dedicated to separating the United States from its money, and in the process knocking us to our knees politically and economically. Hostility towards America, its allies, and its policies is a near-universal aspect of U.N. activities.
As for benevolent, I think we qualify on almost any possible reasonable grounds as "benevolent." The thought of what America would do with its power if we were NOT benevolent would keep people awake at night.
Of course, the way "benevolent" is used by some pundits, it seems to be less a synonym for generosity and goodwill than a synonym for "sucker."
