Perhaps not by their ideas, but they ARE a potent power block --Just like those socialists you mentioned. As such he IS beholden to them to SOME extent. How much is arguable. BUT, when he got in power, se really dropped the ball on what was left of the peace process (after it WAS, to credit, thrown away by arafat and drop-kicked by Sharon)
