Re: I think Tom's point was.....

PERSPECTIVE: "...but I think his point was that the liberal mantra is that no one has the right to judge any form of morality, or lack thereof, ever."

MY REPLY: I know of no "liberal mantra" that asserts that "no one has the right to judge any form of morality."

Liberals tend to believe that sexual choices among consenting adults is no one else's business - and certainly not the government's. Interestingly, libertarians tend to share the same view.

PERSPECTIVE: "If that is the case, any liberal who criticizes Santorum's statement is a tremendous hypocrite."

MY REPLY: Pretty silly statement. Santorum's mistake is confusing one's choice of sexual partners with the legal definition of the institution of marriage. This is a huge faux paux. It belies his real motive which is to support laws which regulate private behavior among consenting adults.

My problem with Mr. Santorum isn't his personal beliefs. He can think whatever he wants about homosexual behavior. My problem is his apparent perspective about what public policy should say about such behavior. I personally don't give a rip who someone sleeps with - as long as its a consenting adult. That being said, I am perfectly comfortable with laws which confine the legal institution of marriage to a single individual of the opposite sex.
