Where do you get your warped views about Canada?

When you have such twisted ideas about your nearest and mostly very similar neigbour, what does that say about your ideas regarding more distant and quite different cultures?

I hardly know where to begin.

Most Canadians are totally able to undertand each other, and are quite happy to be together. There are high numbers of ESL people in some cities, but most work hard to learn English. There is some racial friction, but not nearly as violent or deep-seated as in the US. There has been the Quebec separatist goverment in Quebec, but the recent elections there brought in a more moderate party.

Most Canadian provinces have right-leaning governments, even BC despite it being called the BC Liberal pary. They are working hard to bring economic order to their areas while maintaining social programs. BC has had a hard time because US tariffs on softwood lumber have greatly reduced Govt revenue as wellas putting a lot of people out of work.

The federal government is working with increasing surpluses, reducing spending and the federal debt steadily. (this is really happening, not a Bushian promise). The Canadian economy is much stronger than that of the US recently, witness the Loonie passing 70 cents US this week after being around 64 -66 cents for a long time.

And if anything, Canada is more dependent on the US because of NAFTA, thanks to our previous slimy moron US Pres asss-kissing Conservative PM Mulroney. (you might guess I didn't like him) US companies have increased their ownerhip in Canada, and "free trade" seems to be mostly one way, with crippling US tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber and, just now, wheat. Most Canadians didn't want NAFTA and still hate it.

Also most Canadians that I know are not jealous of the US - they like (most) Americans, but despise a lot of American politics and cultural failings. McFly is an exception, as most Canadians would never wish to move to the US unless forced to by economic necessity.

I think if you did some research, you would find that rates of addiction are lower in Canada than the US, and the same with most "socialized" countries. Prove me wrong if you can.

Ditto welfare rates in Canada and the US, but please include the homeless who fal through the cracks.

And at least in Canada women who need abortions can get them in safe places.

You are either a joker or you are a joke. I tend to favour the latter.
