I asked one of the local ISP guys when DSL would become available out here, he laughed and said in about 2030.
Don't believe it. The free market always works. Somebody will think of something, and it won't be something expected, and it won't be DSL. Heck, it wasn't that long ago that full-time high-speed connection required a special T1 line at a ruinous cost. If someone then had told me someone would figure out how to squeeze high speed over my existing phone line, or bring it into the house on my TV cable, I would have thought they were nuts.
I see the potential for a lot of progress in wireless solutions. We'll see.
Bottom line: you'll have high-speed options a lot sooner than 2030. I'd bet a week's salary it will be in five years or less.
