Frank, I disagree with everything you said....
Give me or liberty or give me deat. There are MANY more important things I want for my family and children than safety and a false sense of security. Many of those things are the same things our country was founded upon. Life. Liberty. Justice. The pursuit of happiness. All of those things are contradicted by us being, as you put it- Pragmatic.
And the whole analogy of the family is worthless and misleading. When we apprehend the abuser of a family, his children don't shoot at us, and we don't shoot and kill them in droves. At least if we do, it ain't justifiable. Its a hypocracy to say we must kill those we seek to protect to protect them.
