re: Threats

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer too much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Teddy Roosevelt

But I wonder, gb, what mighty thing, what glorious triumph, we've achieved in Iraq. The world's mightiest military by an order of magnitude kicked the asses of a military that had become distinctly third-rate since the Gulf War. It's a bit unseemly to crow, sort of like Mike Tyson celebrating beating up a woman. That's how I view the chest-pounding and self-congratulatory back-slapping over Iraq. Even assuming it was right and worth it, it would be a matter for quiet satisfaction at best, and sober reflection on the cost in human lives. The delirious American reaction is evidence that supports my view that we're scared down to our bones, and lashing out in fear at the nearest easy target to bolster our sagging confidence. Viagra for the national psyche. This is nothing to be proud of.
