No monoliths
One of the most distressing things about the 'discussions' here (and of course they refract the larger world) is the characterization of Left and Right as monolithic. That is: "The Left" (or "The Right") behave/believe/say such-and-such; as a result, the country/world is going to hell in a filthy, crowded handbasket.
It ain't necessarily so. The sooner we all start acknowledging that, the closer we'll be to doing something more than complaining.
