re: Twenty million
I think McFly did a fine job of deflating the revisionist spin that we conquered Iraq to save it. You focus on that now because it seems that all of the rest of Bush's smorgasbord of rationalizations has evaporated.
The war against Iraq was sold first and foremost as a decisive blow in the war on terror. The argument was built up out of pieces such as WMD and an alleged connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda. That major part of the story was designed to push the fear button. The saving-Iraq angle was designed to add humanitarian icing to the cake. In its entirety, the Bush sales campaign to build support for the war was a matter of cold political calculation. And now it's falling apart.
