So many thought that finding and killing Saddam and his sons will reduce the attacks against the US troops.
However, there are diferent kinds of resistance groups. Not just the pro-Saddam Baathists, but also the religious groups.
Once all former regime representatives are neutralized, the Shi-ites will want the US troops out of the country (no reason to fear Saddam anymore). If that doesn't happen, they'll increase ambushes against the occupiers. Because of that, the US won't consider the country pacified, which in its eyes, will justify staying longer, sending more troops and spending more money.
In the country where "one never lies" and where Clinton almost got impeached for having lied about a personal liaison with someone, Geoge Bush deliberately aggressed americans soul and their collective imaginary. This wound isn't apparent yet, because it's been covered since 09/11 by an exalted patriotism dressing, and imposed since the beginning of the war in Iraq. But the US is beginning to get tired of those lies.
