I think you're underestimating the benefits Lockheed derives from keeping competitors from being able to get more involved with Mars. Aside from the rather free publicity & prestige of getting to try and redeem itself with the upcoming scout mission (at taxpayers' expense of course), there's also the added benefit of suffocating potential (or even actual) competitors like Microsoft unlawfully did to NetScape. I won't redirect your accusations of cluelessness though, Chris. Although I've never met you, you don't seem to be a mean sort who warrants such callousness on my part. And at times I have needed technical explanations which you've patiently offered, much to my appreciation. I don't pretend to be an engineer any more than you pretend to be an attorney who passionately volunteers to help fight for small business interests regarding space.

Lockheed doesn't want competition any more than Microsoft or TelMex do...

- Lockmart - a symptom of NASA's many problems
- You can't really compare the Viking missions with current ones
- Airbags and landing sites
- With luck, you won't be dependent on NASA for your Mars data
- Scientific data from NASA is evil!
- No its not: it's simply biased

- Why won't NASA simply offer competitive prizes, rather than reward the most corrupt lobbyists?
