Why did NASA not reimage Hoffman's active CO2 vents?
An easy question. Same reason they do not talk about Mars' radiation load.
NASA can not let data stand in the way of a good theory - that Mars is Earth-like. To do so threatens them institutionally - without an "Earth-like" Mars, there is no "there" there for them to send astronauts to.

That's alright. With luck someday you'll grow up and realize what the other 85% of the population does, that Mars is not "Earth-like".

No. It's believing that Mars is Earth-like, and thus an "easy" place for man to migrate to.
