No, but neither have you...

Yet, still, in the fifth month of this conflict, no WMD, no Terrorists, no advanced Nuclear Program... None.

David Kay can say whatever he wants. He can swear upon his mothers grave that hordes of WMD exist. However, until such time as the Yeti corpse is wheeled out in public view and autopsied by top academics, I will not believe that Yetis exist.

I reiterate: It is not opinion that no WMD has been discovered in Iraq to date. This is not up for debate for sane and rational people. You can not accuse me and Don, in this sense, as stating opinion as fact.

What I want to know larry is- When are you going to Doubt? Question? Loose faith? Surely you must have an answer for that question? And if WMD do not exist, when are you going to demand accountability? Never on both counts?

A few things about Mr. Kay:

He is not incompetent, for sure, but he has been a long time advocate for the removal of Saddam. He was part of the original inspection effort, but has not been in Iraq, or involved in inspections for 12 years. He has stated over and over since then that Iraq is developing WMD and etc. He is, more-or-less a political appointee, appointed by the adminitration.

Mr. Kay will, along with the rest of the hawkish partisans who were sold on this war from the beginning, will of course be optimistic and emphatic about finding Iraqi WMD. He is not about to declare himself as incorrect, his political bosses as wrong, etc.

This does not mean he will do a bad job, or be dishonest. It does mean that I am not at all swayed by his optimistic claims. I do not find him particularily likely to be more right than other folks on WMD and Iraq who don't take his position.

In the end, we will see, but one of my points here is that EVENTUALLY we all have to exercise some level of reality check in the time we allow this debate to drag on. For me, that check has come and gone. I don't care how large Iraq is, we own the country, the people have every motive to collaborate with us, we have 100,000 boots on the ground and we have had EVERY POSSIBLE compulsion to find those WMD, including the impending downfall of our last remaining European Ally. And STILL none surface. Not only do none surface, but no solid traces of recent WMD residue or manufacture or storage or shipment have been identified. These traces can be detected at very low concentrations.

Eventually, the partisan Right is going to have to recognize that there is a line past which partisanship cannot take you and still count yourself as reasonable or as a Just soul. The difference between a jack-booted minion/gangster and a mislead believer is the insistence on accountability in leadership, and some sort of principled follow through on that insistence.
