re: A recent political discussion
Worth reading, but then when Fox and Mary Anne get into a discussion, it's always great to be a fly on the wall.
Meanwhile, quietly and without any fuss, David Kay and his crew plug along. Robert Novak has a very interesting piece on this subject. The "money graf," as the bloggers like to say:
Senior officials in the Bush administration believe Kay's weapons discoveries should have been revealed as they were made. However, a decision, approved by President Bush, was made to wait until more was discovered and then announce it -- probably in September.
A number of people have theorized that Bush is withholding information about decisive proof until he can use it politically. I never really bought that scenario...one doesn't really gain that much by timing it later IMO. However, given the behavior of the media and others when other evidence has been presented, I can easily see the Bush administration delaying reporting pieces of less decisive proof--individual finds or partial clues--until the total evidence has accumulated beyond doubt...tying it up in a big, irrefutable bow, so to speak.
The opposition has adopted, as the core of their political position, the belief that Saddam had no WMD at all last year, and never intended to develop any in the future. This is now often confidently expressed by most of them as incontrovertible fact, not open to doubt.
If Novak is right (I have seen this reported nowhere else), Bush may be dropping a large, political WMD in the next month or so.
