Lt. General Jerry Boykin is entitled to speak as he pleases, just as Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is entitled to speak as he pleases. But that being said, no one can deny that the remarks of both individuals are equally "divisive."
And while Mr. Boykin is entitled to his constitutional rights, so must Mr. Bush be obliged to terminate Mr. Boykin's military employment when his free exercise of his rights damages the capacity of the government to carry out its stated military objectives. Upon his return to civilian life, Mr. Boykin can say whatever he wants unimpeded and I would welcome the opportunity for him to do so - sooner rather than later.
