Larry,
Get it straight. I'm not telling Mr. Boykin what he can and should say or not say. I'm only stating that an individual in this kind of position serves at the pleasure of the administration. If his public remarks work against the objectives of the administration, he should be terminated or resign.
I work in a position where I serve at the pleasure of elected officials. I have a right to say anything I want, but I understand and accept the consequences of what I say if it differs from the objectives of those individuals I am hired to serve.
In a democracy, it makes no sense whatsoever for those elected to continue to employ in positions of influence those whose actions and words work against the policies of those elected. That's why you have transitions and a new cabinet everytime a new president or governor is elected.
In this case, Mr. Boykin has complicated the delicate balance the administration is attempting to achieve between taking action against islamic fundamentalists who are terrorists and people of deep Muslim faith whom our constitution was designed to protect as much as people of Christian and Jewish faith.
