re: Space telescope self return for repair...possible?
If you wanted to spend the extra money and the time on the design headaches you would create. You could make the space telescope return to low earth orbit for servicing every few years instead of going out to it. This would require something like an ion propulsion system. With a scope in space it is not so farfetched a suggestion as it might be for a Moon based system.
