if the Press is only presenting one side of the issues? It is important to pay attention to the things that go wrong. After all, the first step to solving any problem is to recognize it exists. Conversely, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. When the press routinely presents only the negative stories and leaves out the positive ones, the present a false picture to the electorate that nothing is working.
The press has a vital role. Too bad they're letting their partisanship and bias distort what they present, and too bad there's nothing the public can do about it but to stop watching the news (viewship is down sharply for almost all networks) or buying the papers and magazines (readership is down for most of them, too). The press is not above criticism even when they're protected by the 1st Amendment.
