re: The responsibility of citizenship is a simple principle

Fine. So be "responsible." What next?

I'm just sick of the rewriting of history that makes it sound like Bush went off all by himself and decided to invade Iraq against the fervent wishes of pretty much everyone else on the planet.

Most of the Democrats currently throwing crap at him not only voted for the use of force, but during Clinton's attacks on Iraq, were howling from the rooftops for regime change in Iraq because Saddam was too dangerous to live.

Now to hear them talk, you'd think they'd known all along exactly what we would find in Iraq, exactly how the war would go, exactly which towns would be without electricity, and exactly how many American soldiers would die.

By the way, "AnybodybutBush" almost breaks even in the polls, but when you name any particular candidate, Bush beats them out fairly handily. From ABC News:

If the 2004 election were today, 48 percent of registered voters say they'd support Bush, 47 percent the Democratic nominee.

But Bush will run against an actual Democrat, not a generic one, and here he fares better. He gets between 51 percent and 56 percent support among registered voters in head-to-head match-ups against any of five leading contenders for the Democratic nomination; they get anywhere from 38 percent to 43 percent support. (The range is Bush vs. Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri, 51 percent to 42 percent, and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, 52 percent to 43 percent; to Bush vs. Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, 56 percent to 38 percent.)
