"There’s no sign of a lunar skating rink in the mysterious polar craters — or even a big slab of ice."

I agree with Jacob, there isn't much news here. No one was planing on opening a skating rink on the moon and nobody said there was big slabs of ice on the Moon- though there was some suggestion there could be "solid slabs of ice" beyond the detection range of Prospector. So this lastest news is saying that in the areas that can be seen from earth there isn't large areas of solid ice down to the level of two meters below surface- so it adds a tiny amount information to the speculation of whether there is "large scale" solid ice just beyond the detection level of Prospector. Nothing mentioned in the article makes me think that scientists who estimated 6 billion tons of water at both poles, are going to change their estimate, but since they gave a fairly conservative estimate, this is more of a confirmation that their estimate was accurate (they didn't make the mistake over stating the amounts). Nor would I guess that Paul Spudis who has said he thinks that there is at least 10 billion tonnes at the poles, would feel compelled to change this postion. Now if there is actually more information we are getting from this news article, then perhaps this finding is more significant.

But what should be really kept in mind is that this news article lacks a lot of detail and is filled with misinformation- in other words it's a typical news article.
