re: "Deregulating industries.....can also lead to catastrophic failures like in the power industry."

I'm not a teacher. Nonetheless much of the power failures in California and the recent blackout point to deregulation triggering catrophic situations. Apparently the Republican Wilson initiated the deregulation and of course the circular argument is that more deregulation would have somehow fixed the problem. This is just the old canard of assuming the market will fix everything and catastrophes don't happen.

Much of the problem was also caused by the utterly corrupt Bush and Cheney and their secret energy meetings and helping Ken Lay for his campaign contributions. The green light was given to a bunch of crooks to rip off California and then try to blame it on regulations while they made their getaway.

If California had never derregulated anything they would be in the same situation as other states not deregulated, which is probably much better than they are now. So deregulation was just a scourge for them along with silly calls for more deregulation and covering up for thugs and crooks.

Pretty typical of what happens when chaos is ignored.
