You should try thinking more logically and avoiding sophistry, it really won't make your brain explode. While there was a contest with extreme communists and capitalists, socialism itself has been widely accepted for many decades in all Western countries.
In fact nowhere in the West is socialism and capitalism really thought of as an either/or contest. All countries have welfare, medicare, unemployment benefits, pensions, parks, public schools, federal insurance for natural disasters, minimum wage laws, consumer protection laws, federal unions, and so on.
No one seriously suggest any of this should be gotten rid of outside the extreme right wing fringe. And rightly so, to remove these things would be idiocy. That would be like electing an idiot as president... Oh never mind.
While this silly argument goes on in the feeble minds of the Coulters, Limbaughs, etc the world has moved on to a scientific approach of economics based on mathematics, journals, peer review, etc.
Economics has nothing to do with silly old novels, ravings by Limbaugh while he's high on painkillers, whatever is wrong with Ann Coulter, or the ideas of a president too stupid to even speak his mother tongue without screwing it up. It's about science.
I have no idea why you as an engineer would cling to such illogical irrational ideas, honestly I have no idea at all. You are obviously capable of reason and logic or you couldn't do your job, so this disconnect into nonsense just because economics is involved is a mystery to me. Ayn Rand's novels just weren't that good.
No doubt there are some right wing nutjob web sites you can refer me to, that explain how laissez faire is the Atlas of the world and the creeping influence of the minimum wage and pensions is dragging it down. Sorry those ideas have been discredited for so long it is really absurd.
It's a new century, people have to put all that old worthless crap behind and get on with building propsperity. We don't need crooked politicians raping the country to pay off their base, and calling it an economic policy. It's all bullshit, it's not science, it doesn't work, it just hurts people.
People win Nobel prizes for understanding economics properly, how mathematically the economy functions in terms of chaos, randomness and hundreds of other factors.
Some things can't be dumbed down just because someone you like wants to be in power. Ever wondered why they have exams in school? It's because some jobs can't be done by stupid people. It's nothing against being stupid, but that people really don't want morons as doctors, lawyers, airline pilots, engineers, etc. That's because these are complicated things and idiots can't do them properly.
That's why you don't elect idiots to run a country because they just fuck it all up and blame everyone else. It's a hard job and requires special talent to do well. Just because you think it should run on simple sayings people would say in a bar isn't my fault. No one says that physics should be dumbed down because calculus is too hard so they can't use it in building things any more.
You have to let go this "back of the Corn Flakes packet" or Reader's Digest style of idiot economics. Maybe you need to study some real books on the subject. It's not like Rush actually learns something about these things before giving his opinion. Economics deserves proper respect, and it won't work properly if it has be translated to idiotspeak.
