re: Economy as ecosystem

If you view free economics as "predation," I'm not sure what else to say. Your paradigm is so far from my concept of free trade between individuals, that I don't know where else to go with this.

Capitalists don't survive by destroying laborers. Laborers are free men, not sheep. If you look at the actual history of socialist nations and capitalist nations, which ones stand deepest in the blood of their own citizens?

In free trade between two individuals, both usually come away as winners. Each has traded something of lesser value to them for something of more value. It may seem odd when you buy something at a store, and both of you say "Thank you," but in that small oddity is the basic driving force of the free market. I have a PC. I have lost nothing by making Bill Gates rich, and Bill Gates did not rob me to gain his wealth. And Bill Gates, for all his wealth, can't make me buy a PC, unless he harnesses the government power of force to do so. The local city code examiner has more power over my life than the richest man in the world.

The Leftist views all relations between people as eat or be eaten, all economics as a zero-sum game, all human relations as someone trying to pull something on someone else, and the world as either winners or losers. Unable to see how wealth is created or destroyed, unable to visualize how people could get along without every move being prescibed at gunpoint, and unable to hear the word "profit" without thinking of evil.

It is probably not unusual that you view capitalists as flesh eaters. I'm sure that's how you were trained. The Left sees a massive governmental control system as necessary to keep themselves and others from coming out on the "wrong end" of the deal.

And people say that the rampant number of Marxists on our campuses mean nothing important.

"chaos theory" is just the latest excuse to clamp down on freedom. History is full of philosophical treatises showing why an elite must control everyone on Earth for their own good.
