SmirkingChimp.com, (just one example) which apparently doesn't qualify as "incivility" to you, was not a response to Republican abuses. It was not an attempt of the Left to "defend itself." It was registered about two weeks after the 2000 election. The idea that leftist abuse of conservatives suddenly appeared in response to Bush and his policies ain't gonna fly.
The writer of that article appears to be utterly blind to the massive abuses from the Left, which has consolidated itself to an almost unceasing barrage of hatred, insults, lies, and association with Nazis and worse, especially since the beginning of the Iraq mission.
I assumed you were a little more perceptive than he is.
