Hello?

At the risk of sounding "uncivil," and apparently having to pound the point in with a twelve-pound sledge, the article in question had the premise that there was no incivility on the Left, except that which has been recently inspired by incivility on the right.

Bringing the sledge down hard, this is raw, unparallelled horse shit. No objective observer would make such a statement, and I think I have shown more than enough examples to make my point. I don't know where the hell David Neiwert has lived for the past twenty years, or what he reads. But he is dead wrong, either from ignorance, or just plain lying.

I'm fifty years old. I remember the Left crapping enthusiastically on Republican presidents back to Nixon. I was there, dammit. This was happening before talk radio, before Fox News, back when there were only three news networks and all of them straight-down-the-center liberal. Do I have to document the abuse Reagan got from the Left?

And yes, the context where the article appears also makes an ironic point, although apparently my sledge isn't big enough to drive it home. I can assume that Neiwert has no objection to his article on "civility" appearing there. It's a well-known site.

Or maybe you'd like to try and convince me that if I linked to a thoughtful article discussing affirmative action that happened to be on a "dumbnigra.com" website, that you and everyone else would not have made an issue out of it?

I have never said that both sides haven't been polarized more than usual. I refuse to stand here and accept the outlandish idea that only conservatives are to blame in this.

I try to stay as level as possible here, but few things piss me off as much as when people I'm arguing with play "thick," particularly when I know they aren't.
