Maybe it was an intelegence ambush
What if we figured out how the Terrorist's were obtaining their intellegence...and then exploited that knowledge to lay a trap...By feeding false intelegence into their intelligence stream.
The Sadam supporting terrorists are really no different than any other army when it comes to intelligence activities: All intel activities are built on varying degrees of trust and mistrust--And that trust/mistrust can be used against them pretty easily as their power base begins to erode.
I've got to think this episode is the begining of the end for the Sadam Loyalists, as they are going to wonder how they were had (who on their side sold them out).
