re: Don't hold your breath

Like Mr "worst economy in history" knows jack shit about economics. Oh that's right, there's a bit of a recovery on now. That's the trouble when Bush uses wrong economic policies that are though of as nonsense by mainstream economists. It didn't work and the argument gets siller and sillier trying to justify a load of rubbish.

Some tax cuts have to go to wealthier people, not 90% of them though. This is the dishonest part of the whole argument trying to fudge this number. If 10% of the cuts had gone to 10% of the wealthiest then the balance would have been maintained. To disguise this there's all kinds of hand waving about "tax cuts" instead of who really got them. As to this being good for the economy that's a load of rubbish as well. Economists were quite clear in saying it wouldn't stimulate the economy just like it didn't work in Reagan's and Poppy's time.

Economics has to be done by experts not following novels or rich people making up silly policies to give themselves a free buck. I know you are going to say it's their money, but the people who missed out on real tax cuts because the rich got most of it, it was their money too.

And then if the rich complained about that then that would be class warfare. You have no idea what will happen in 2005 and neither does Bush. All through this recession there have been the same kind of novel based silly predictions from people who aren't experts in the field and they've been constantly wrong.

Now because of one good quarter after enormous and badly designed stimulus the economy has grown and all of a sudden that justifies all the wrong forecasts and stupid policies of the past. Just another seemingly endless example of how bone headed supply side economics is and why it's regarded as nonsense in economics. It's because it stuffs everything up, it's the scientific equivalent of creationism.

The face is lots of people lost their assets and jobs because of Bush's stupid economic policies that all the experts warned against. Just like invading Iraq after all the intelligence experts said there was no imminent threat. Bush thinks this is leadership but it's following disastrous courses like lemmings do.

It all exists in this quaint little bubble of delusion. When something goes wrong it's because the policies weren't radical enough. When the economy isn't wrecked as badly it's a vindication. Psychiatrists have to contend with these sorts of mind games with patients, the whole thought process has no contact with reality at all. The idea seems to be if they stay crazy enough everyone else will decide running the government like a lunatic is ok.

But what happens if the psychiatrist refuses to go crazy? The economists aren't going to catch this madness. They are going to keep on saying what is the right way to handle this, and so the Bushes must keep hiding from reality. Taxes have to be raised or the country goes bankrupt. Everyone who can add up knows this. Even given the usual stupid Bush policy of aiming for the icebergs this one can sink the whole boat. Go and look up the a few novels, that'll make that pesky reality go away for a while.
