Remarkable. Bears repeating, I think:
A spokesman for Mr Berlusconi said the prime minister had been telephoned recently by Col Gaddafi of Libya, who said: "I will do whatever the Americans want, because I saw what happened in Iraq, and I was afraid."
I still think, good for Gaddafi. His government has done some truly shameful, horrible things, but if he's honestly going to come clean, for whatever reason, good on him. And if it's just because he now knows that there isn't a spiderhole deep enough to save his skin, so be it.
If we could take enough dictators alive, it'd be interesting to find out just how much of a role their personal fear(s) play in making them the people they become. Do they rule with an iron fist because they are, at heart, just fearful little children?
