Qaddafi the strawman

Now Qaddafi takes the place of Saddam, the evil tyrant getting ready to unleash his model planes and utilities of death, saved in the Nick of time by Bush.

The point is not whether Qaddafi was scared by the invasion, but whether this represents a significant change in the staus quo. He was already under sanctions that crippled his economy. He had no weapons that were a credible threat to the West. He was already trying to negotiate a lifting of the sanction with compensation to the Lockerbie victims.

Because of the compensation the sanctions were lifted. That has nothing whatsoever to do with Bush, that has been a continuing negotiation for many years. So since this deal was agreed to before the Iraq invasion, then that cannot possibly have anything to do with it.

I suppose Bush had to rush to get some more lies in before the end of the year. In that deal it was planned for the US to also lift sanctions with that compensation. Instead they reneged on the deal and asked for some new things, which is inspectors on these very basic unthreatening weapons.

So the whole thing is the usual con job. They were going to lift the sanctions anyway, but delayed it a bit to fit the lie that Qaddafi had suddenly changed from the Iraq invasion. The whole thing is totally phoney.

Bush and Blair deserve credit for removing some small inconsequential amount of weapons and to get weapons inspectors into Libya. Even though their whole rationale seems to be that weapons inspectors are not to be trusted anyway. So it's a lot of propaganda in front of lies and irrelevance. That sounds like a typical Bush family business.

Probably the only real news in this is that US oil companies are welcome so I assume Halliburton is again being looked after. Cheney should get a big bonus when he goes back to work for them.

You'd think Scrooge Bush could do one honest thing, just for Christmas. Bah Humbug he would no doubt say. Still, you can fool some of the people all the time, and those are the ones you concentrate on.
