Didn't monopolistic LockMart profit from its "unintentional" 1999 Mars flops? Why shouldn't monopolistic Astrium, then? Like you, I'd love to see Beagle 2 succeed. Would Astrium, though?

By the way, I'm not saying that LockMart intentionally made its 1999 missions fail, but it sure does seem to have done so with a "reckless" mindset from which it could later profit.
