Who are "these people"?
I want names, not just some ambiguous pronoun them. If you think you have things so nailed down who are these people who arent thinking strategically?
So perhaps they thought they can lie and get found out and not get into trouble. People will think we wouldn't have done this so we won't get into trouble anyway.

if your premiss was 'they weren't 'strategic thinkers' then you would have been best to leave that part out and just try to say, "they weren't thinking that far".

The more likely reason is that Chalabi and the INC fed them a lot of lies (and probably the Niger documents) to get them to invade. The CIA and others didn't believe that intelligence but Rumsfled and Cheney cherry picked it because they were sucked in by Chalabi. We know Chalabi lied because the WMD's aren't there
the rest was a really nice read. But those things are easy to string together especially if you ignore some important things. I find it amazing how people justify the motive for all of this. "why? how does all this benefit Bush? Hows the money being funnelled into Bushs' pocket? where are the accounts?" give me some meat here. These are things that you take for granted. I'm not taking them as granted, so convince me.
