First, the language issue.
French-Canadians in Quebec want to keep their French language as an "official" language.
French-Canadians have seen how their cousins [Franco-Americans] living south of them in the states of Maine, Vermont, etc, denied French-language school funding in those states.
Even the "Cajuns" [Franco-Americans who were evicted from Nova Scotia 200 years ago]
who live in Louisiana have not made French a second official language in Louisiana.
Second, Quebecers are too liberal and leftwing.
They make those living in Iowa, Vermont or Massachusetts look conservative by comparison.
I don't think most Americans would want to have Quebec as a 51st State because of that.
By comparison, many Albertans want the death-penalty restored, want tougher prison sentences, they want the right to purchase firearms without governments restricting them too much...and many Albertans admire how their neighbors to the south in the Montana state government have streamlined and tightened up the Montana state-budget.
My opinion.
