This is now getting lots of coverage in major news outlets such as CNN, Reuters and USA Today so it's worth asking: what alternative explanations might apply to Mexico's recent UFO claims? (online video clip included):

Perhaps someone flashed infrared-detectable lights up at the Air Force plane, possibly to dissuade them from noticing marijuana plants below in the plushly green state of Campeche? But supposedly those lights have something of a life of their own or else we'd not be hearing so much hooplah.
Meanwhile, those lights seem too uniform to be mere phosphorus flashes. Incidentally, I've only seen such flashes in still lakes and creeks late at night, and they resemble the tiny flash of lightning bugs.
Or could it be that it's time for Roswell, New Mexico to move over for "Old" Mexico's UFO enthusiasts? Mind you, Mexico's military isn't above seeing things that aren't there any more than our own military is above perceiving weapons of mass destruction that somehow keep evading seekers even after taxpayers have been forced to pay hundreds of billions of dollars (a hefty chunk of which went to Halliburton).
