re: Fighting terrorists

One is not born a terrorist but becomes one.
One is not born an insurgent or a resistant but becomes one.

Actually, most of them are "educated" into terrorists by a massive network of Wahabbi/Islamist mosques and schools that infest not only much of the Middle East, but Europe and even America. This unpleasant fact is desperately avoided by people on both sides of the war issue. I would bet money that there is someone preaching world jihad to a rapt crowd less than an hour's drive from where you live.

And yes, plenty of the current ones were not terrorizing before the US invaded Iraq.

Some like Zarqawi come from abroad (he's a Jordanian and I don't think King Abdullah of Jordan is our enemy); but most of what you call terrorists were not terrorizing their own people (Saddam was there to prevent anything outside of his control) before the US invaded Iraq.

Name one freshly-minted terrorist. Just one. And I'm not talking the teenage cannon fodder they talk into driving their bomb cars and wearing their explosive belts. I'm talking the real ones. Zarqawi--who was hospitalized in Baghdad for a couple of months prior to the war--has been a terrorist since the Soviets were in Afghanistan. Find me an interview, a testimony, a random comment that indicates that any of the al Qaeda or Saddamites were just plain ordinary folks before the Evil Bush invaded Iraq.

Your comment on Saddam is perilously close to the one Bowser made implying that mass graves might be a necessary evil to unite a fractured country.

When a country is being invaded and occupied by a foreign power, the latter sends to the population a signal as strong as one coming from a rapist to its victim.

That analogy isn't even worth a comment.
