Face it, he was VERY popular with at least some sections of Iraq. I'm sure there are those who would defend him if the occupying power or their puppets would let them.

Especially since he's willing to confront the hated Americans.

However, your post didn't answer the question, why are there 50 Americans prosecuting in an Iraqi trial?
