A million bucks a year? Where do I sign??
To get serious...
So the bombing of the WTC, the embassy attacks, and the Cole, just weren't serious enough for a full effort?
To be coldly analytical about it, no they weren't. Not in terms of any objective measure of the damage done to America do they compare with 9/11. You know that.
Those events loom large in 20/20 hindsight. After 9/11 we can't not see them as part of a pattern and as precursors, because now we do see the pattern and we experienced the main event the others precursed.
At the time of the events, whoever was in charge could only see the past and the present, and judge the damage to the country by what happened then. They couldn't look into a crystal ball and apply a multiplier to account for the future horror of 9/11. They just knew what they knew then.
So maybe Clinton should have consulted an astrologer like the Reagans did?
And do you seriously think that Clinton or any other President could have convinced Congress to mount a 9/11-scale response to, say, the first WTC bombing? Gimme a break. Democrats as well as Republicans would've thought he'd lost his mind.
