re: first net job loss since Hoover. Not quite accurate.

Last time I responded to this (I can't find it now) the reply was something along the lines of "Hoover? Who the hell mentioned Hoover?" Oh, well, here I go again.

The unemployment rate is 5.4 percent. It was something around 20 percent during Hoover's administration.

This "Hoover" bullshit is addressed here, among other places. Of course, that article is old, so you have to correct the numbers with the jobs added since then.

You know, the last couple of years are the first time I EVER saw "job creation" numbers as the driver for employment progress, instead of the unemployment rate.

During the first Clinton term, unemployment didn't drop to 5.4 percent until February of 1995, and didn't drop below that until June of 1996, five months before he was up for re-election. The lowest rate during Clinton's entire first term was 5.1 percent.

But that isn't surprising. If jobs were created in large numbers, the Left would seize on some different statistic and run with it. Back in March and April when over 300,000 payroll jobs were created each month, suddenly job growth didn't matter any more. You see, they were the "wrong" jobs.

There may be airheads out there who buy this kind of thinking. I don't think there's enough to swing an election.

What's annoying is that I have to repeat this stuff over and over again. It seems to slip out of some minds easily. It's beginning to feel like some kind of "Groundhog Day" situation here.
