The uniforms are the way they are because they are optimal for athletic performance... If she compromises her performance her team pays the price...
Let's say a serious christian fundamentalist that believes the world is only 6000 years old is hired by an observatory... every time that observatory reports on something more than 6000 light years away they are saying that that persons religion has no validity... should the observatory omit all data of that nature so as to not insult and denigrate that persons religion?
Religion is a matter of faith, and with devout faith comes sacrifices... there are some things that your religion makes impossible to do...
Muslims and fundamentalists of other faiths cant be scantily clad cheerleaders... A cheerleader in a burkah is a silly concept as well as impractical... Just because you choose to believe in a restrictive religion does not mean others must be restricted.
My belief is the right to worship whatever religion should never be abridged... However other peoples rights and comfort should not be infringed upon because of the particular fairy tale you choose to believe in...
I have worked with very devout almost fundamentalist believers... I respect them by not criticizing their beliefs and usually they show their respect for my beliefs by not trying to convert me...
I guess my point is if you have a religion, fine... If that religion imposes restrictions on what you can and can't do then either accept those limitations or accept that your faith isnt that deep and get whatever religion fits your desire.
What You CANT do is expect everyone else to make sacrifices for your own personal beliefs... We have the freedom of religion, but that also implies the freedom FROM religion- If you choose a religion then stick to it or quit it, dont expect others to take on its penalties.
If you are a muslim, and if you so desire you can work at the 'Porky Pig Barbeque Shack' - what you cant do is insist that they stop serving pork because it is against your religion... It is that simple.
